Markthal – Rotterdam

Whenever I travel to Madrid, I take the cab straight to one of my favorite places: Mercado de San Miguel, a cute indoor market place where you can buy fresh produce, taste beautiful food (I love pinchos!) and stroll around with a glass of wine, while checking out some cool food stalls. When I heard that a colossal version of this cute little market opened its doors just a few weeks ago I rushed my way to the heart of Rotterdam’s city center, to visit the already infamous Markthal Rotterdam. Now before I dive into my journey of the best thing in life (which is obviously food…I mean really guys 😉 ) I just want you to take a look at this magnificent piece of architecture:

Foodie Paradise
With great parking facilities right under this building, luxury apartments above, restaurants all around and nearly 100 vendors offering their goodies at their market stalls, Markthal Rotterdam has turned grocery shopping into a very exciting experience. The diversity of stalls is quite extensive as well. Vendors are selling organic produce, pinchos (yes, I died and woke up in snack heaven!), local cheese, meat, fish, spices, oriental products, middle eastern goodies and so much more. This is truly paradise for die-hard foodies!

Monsieur Saucisson
A stall that caught my eyes early on is owned by the young, enthusiastic and (very) entrepreneurial duo Remco and Bart. With a stall that offers over 20 different kinds of authentic French sausages, Monsieur Saucisson is an entrepreneurial dream come true for these boys (yup, they are only in their twenties!). After sharing true passion for their product throughout the country, Remco and Bart were thrilled to be able to continue this at Markthal Rotterdam.

Fresh Food Friends
While the foodie journey through Markthal Rotterdam continued, I came across a combined stall with poultry (www.treuren.nl), quality beef (www.nicetomeat.nl), fish (www.schmidtzeevis.nl) and vegetable & fruits (www.rungis.nl). This stall presented some smart teamwork and all vendors really formed a combined effort to create an all-round grocery shopping experience. I couldn’t help but staring at the various unique fruits and vegetables that were being sold. Guys, my brains were having an I-can’t-wait-to-cook meltdown at this stall! Just take a look at some of the spectacular, natural, fresh produce these guys had to offer:

Rotterdam has changed the face of  grocery shopping with her brand new, colossal Markthal. I had an amazing day in this unique building and will certainly return to fulfill my inner foodie needs!
